Secapp is introducing expanded support for TOTP-based two-factor authentication. TOTP, or time-based one-time authentication code, improves login security by adding a separate verification code alongside the username and password.
The functionality uses commonly available authentication apps that support 6-digit authentication codes. When TOTP is enabled for a user, the user sets up the authentication method in Secapp’s two-factor authentication settings. After this, logging in requires a verification code, which the user receives from their own authentication app.
TOTP support expands to Secapp applications #
TOTP login is being introduced gradually across all Secapp applications.
In the Android app, users may be asked to enter a time-based one-time code when logging in. When TOTP has been configured for the user, the Android app recognizes that additional verification is required and asks the user to enter the code. The functionality also supports copying and pasting the code.
In the iOS app, login works according to the same principle. The user receives the authentication code from their chosen authentication app and enters it in Secapp during login.
The Windows desktop application also supports TOTP login. When TOTP is enabled for the user, the desktop application asks for the required authentication code during login.
Controlled rollout at organization level #
TOTP functionality is enabled separately for each organization. This allows for a controlled rollout and enables organizations to plan the adoption of two-factor authentication according to their own information security practices.
