Arnprior Regional Health (ARH) and Secapp, a global leader in secure alerting and mass notification technology, have officially entered a strategic partnership following a successful extended pilot program that began in April 2024. The initiative, supported by Canadian partner BrightBuild FPS Ltd., marks a major milestone in the modernization of emergency communication and staff coordination across healthcare environments in Ontario.

Pilot Confirms Reliability, Integration Strength and Practical Usability

During the year-long proof of concept, ARH tested Secapp’s ability to integrate with its internal systems and legacy infrastructure including nurse call systems and hospital-wide emergency protocols through Secapp’s robust API and automation capabilities. The results demonstrated that Secapp is not only a reliable communication tool but also a powerful preventive technology that extends the operational lifespan of existing systems, reducing the need for costly “rip-and-replace” upgrades.

“Aside from Secapp’s responsiveness and adaptability, when married to the exceptional support we received from both Secapp and BrightBuild, what stood out most to us was the system’s uniqueness and practicality,” said Jeff Letourneau, CFO of Arnprior Regional Health.

He continued: “Because it operates on common smartphones – devices that are increasingly becoming standard tools in healthcare – Secapp fits seamlessly into our environment, and on the whole, our staff was extremely positive about their experience in the POC. The Secapp application not only transformed the speed and clarity of our emergency response protocols, but also acted as an automatic training and performance platform, allowing leadership to quickly assess how staff respond to ERP codes and provide real-time coaching or support where needed, all without adding workload or complexity.”

Faster Response Times and Enhanced Safety Across Care Environments

The Secapp pilot project validated Secapp’s ability to reduce burden costs in daily caregiver operations while significantly improving communication speed and reliability during emergencies. During Code Orange fan-out tests, hospital teams connected through Secapp were able to respond within seconds, a dramatic improvement over traditional phone, text, and email coordination cycles.

Beyond the hospital, Secapp’s wide-area communication capabilities have given community care workers, patient transfer teams, and remote staff a dependable way to communicate and request help when under duress while providing very powerful lone worker protection, further enhancing safety across the regional health network.

BrightBuild Ensures Seamless Adoption Through Localized Training

BrightBuild FPS, Secapp’s Canadian distribution and integration partner, conducted a detailed site analysis and developed department-specific training media that allowed ARH staff to rapidly learn and adopt the system. This localized approach has become a model for other healthcare facilities evaluating Secapp in Canada.

“Our role was to ensure Secapp fit seamlessly into the daily rhythm of hospital life,” said Cameron Fry, CEO & Managing Director of BrightBuild.

He added: “Digital transformation in Canadian hospitals has been a rough and rocky road, unbelievably expensive, and in many cases catastrophically ineffective in comparison to the promises made at time of sale. Secapp disrupts these circumstances by bringing cutting edge technological performance and stability that is supported by a “customer first” ethos. We felt safe investing our time and resources to partner with Secapp, and believe this system to be the better choice, especially in hospitals like Arnprior.”

Technical Advancements and Seamless Interoperability

Technical highlights of the pilot included successful API integration with legacy communication tools, immediate failover capabilities during Code Orange scenarios, and customized user experiences designed for nursing teams, security staff, and administration.

Arnprior’s leadership praised the rapid responsiveness of Secapp’s Finland-based development team, led by Timo Harju, for swiftly creating interoperability solutions that modernized older systems at the ward level.

“Arnprior’s feedback and collaboration were invaluable,” said Kari Aho, CEO of Secapp. He emphasized: “Their openness to innovation helped demonstrate how our technology can deliver measurable safety improvements without replacing existing infrastructure. This partnership represents exactly how healthcare modernization should happen through cooperation and respect for the systems that already work.”

A Major Step Toward Broader Canadian Healthcare Deployment

Secapp currently supports 100 % of the Finnish healthcare system, with active deployments across the Baltic states and European Union. The Arnprior partnership marks one of its most comprehensive Canadian healthcare pilots to date and is expected to pave the way for broader adoption across the province.

Both organizations plan to expand their collaboration over the coming year, with Secapp positioned to become Arnprior’s primary staff communication and emergency annunciation tool for all emergency response code protocols.
